Volunteer & Donor Policy template
Looking to create a policy and procedure for volunteers in our non-profit organization. We need to track volunteers, create a FMV Rate, and also track and monitor donor(s) contributions that volunteer(s) accept. Anyone have some resources that I can use as a template for a policy and training?

Based on my experience with volunteer management, a simple spreadsheet can be a good starting point for tracking volunteer hours and calculating their fair market value for grant reporting. You could then pair this with a basic donor management system such as Bloomerang or DonorPerfect for contributions. A clear written policy that separates volunteer activities from fundraising requests can also help. Keeping the policy simple and training staff on it should make implementation easier.

A solid volunteer policy can start with clear role definitions and a simple tracking spreadsheet or lightweight CRM. For FMV rates, the Independent Sector publishes annual guidance that many organisations find useful. It may also be worth pairing this with a straightforward gift acceptance policy for contributions handled by volunteers. The National Council of Nonprofits also has templates that can be adapted to suit your organisation.
